A Russian manicure is the cleanest-looking manicure you can get: the cuticle area is cleaned with a fine electric file instead of soaking and cutting, and gel polish is laid right up to the skin. The result looks freshly done for weeks. At Bellissimo Nail Studio in Khar West, a Russian manicure with gel polish costs ₹1,800 (plus GST).
What is a Russian manicure?
It is a dry manicure. Instead of soaking your hands in water, the nail artist uses an e-file with small, specialised bits to lift and remove dead cuticle skin around the nail. Because the nail is never soaked, it doesn’t swell and shrink afterwards, which helps the gel stay on longer.
The polish is then applied very close to the cuticle line. That is what gives a Russian manicure its signature look: no gap at the base of the nail, and grow-out that is much less visible.
How is it different from a regular manicure?
| Classic manicure | Russian manicure | |
|---|---|---|
| Cuticle care | Soak, push back, trim | Dry, with an e-file |
| Polish placement | Small gap at the cuticle | Right up to the cuticle |
| Finish | Neat | Very clean, “just done” look |
| Best with | Regular or gel polish | Gel polish |
| Price at Bellissimo | ₹1,000 | ₹1,800 with gel polish |
How long does a Russian manicure last?
With gel polish, most clients keep a neat look for about three to four weeks, depending on how fast their nails grow and how much they use their hands. Because the gel starts right at the cuticle, the grow-out is subtle, so many clients stretch it a little longer.
Is a Russian manicure safe?
It is safe when it is done by a trained nail technician with clean tools. The e-file only removes dead skin; it should never hurt or cut. At Bellissimo we sterilise our tools for every client. If you have very sensitive skin, a cut, or an infection around the nail, tell your nail artist before the service so they can adjust or reschedule.
Who should get one?
- Anyone who wants their manicure to look fresh for weeks, not days.
- Brides and anyone with a big event coming up.
- People whose cuticles grow fast or look untidy soon after a manicure.
- Gel polish lovers who hate the visible gap as the nail grows.
How to make it last longer
- Wear gloves for washing dishes and cleaning.
- Apply cuticle oil once a day.
- Don’t pick or peel the gel; book a proper removal.
- Book your next appointment around the three-to-four-week mark.
